I still remember my first day as a medical student at Andijan State Medical Institute (ASMI) in Uzbekistan—an experience marked by both exhilaration and anxiety. After years of hard work, countless hours of study, and the unwavering support of my family, I had finally reached the threshold of my dream: to become a doctor. It was a moment I had visualized for years, but living it in real time brought with it a mix of emotions that words can only partly capture.
As I walked into the grand lecture hall, filled with the quiet murmurs and shifting glances of students from different countries and cultures, I was struck by how unfamiliar everything felt. Gone were the familiar faces of my school days, the comfort of childhood friends, and the predictable routine of my hometown. In their place were hundreds of new faces, each one carrying its own hopes, fears, and aspirations—just like mine. I felt a surge of excitement, but also a deep sense of unease. I was stepping into a new world, far away from home, and far outside my comfort zone.
For a moment, I stood still, absorbing the unfamiliarity, unsure of where I belonged. But that uncertainty was short-lived. I spotted a small group of students nearby, chatting softly. With nervous courage, I approached them, hoping for some semblance of connection. To my relief, they were incredibly warm, welcoming, and just as eager to make new friends. That simple act of kindness put my heart at ease and reminded me that shared experiences—especially in a field like medicine—can quickly bring people together.
Since that day, ASMI has become much more than just a university. It has become a second home—a place where I am growing both academically and personally. From navigating lectures in complex subjects like Anatomy and Biochemistry, to sharing late-night study sessions and cultural experiences with classmates from across the globe, each day is shaping me into a more confident, resilient, and empathetic individual.

As a second-year MBBS student at Andijan State Medical Institute (ASMI), Uzbekistan, my medical journey has been both inspiring and transformative. From the very beginning, ASMI has provided a strong academic foundation grounded in international medical standards, an experienced faculty, and hands-on learning opportunities that have shaped my passion for healthcare.
In my first year, I focused on mastering the core pre-clinical subjects—Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. These subjects not only built the base of my medical knowledge but also enhanced my curiosity about the human body and its complex systems. Engaging in cadaver dissections, lab experiments, and interactive lectures taught me the discipline and critical thinking needed in medicine.
Now in my second year, I am delving deeper into subjects such as Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine. These subjects are sharpening my understanding of disease processes, diagnostics, and therapeutic mechanisms. We also get early exposure to clinical scenarios through hospital visits and case-based discussions, helping me connect theory with patient care.
Studying at ASMI has also exposed me to a multicultural learning environment. Interacting with peers from different countries has broadened my perspective, improved my communication skills, and encouraged teamwork—qualities essential in clinical settings.
